Sherry Lynn Ivy, 66 of Canadian and formerly of Wildorado.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sherry Lynn Ivy, beloved mother, and grandmother who left us peacefully on December 10, 2024.
A celebration of life memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Canadian Methodist Church, with Gary Jahnel, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Glazier Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Sherry was born December 14, 1957, in Tulsa Oklahoma, grew up in Canadian Texas, graduating from Canadian High School in 1976. She was a proud Wildcat, and forever bled Black and Gold. She was also a proud member of the Glazier Grit Gang, and spent many hours with her friends and family terrorizing the lovely residents of Glazier with their ornery antics. She was born into the big ol’ Wright family which she was so proud to be a part of. After High School she attended TSTI saddle making school. Sherry had a great passion for gardening, canning, poem writing, leather work and painting. She dedicated countless hours to cultivating her garden, turning it into a beautiful oasis that brought happiness to everyone who visited. She loved music, loved to dance, and would beat you anytime at a friendly game of Skip-Bo. She was an incredible cook, and would feed her grandchildren anything they wanted, at any time. Sherry was a simple woman who wasted nothing. She canned beautifully, painted beautifully, drew beautifully and you were always guaranteed a chuckle from a poem she’d compose. All of these things were always generously shared with her many friends and family.
She is survived by her children, Clegg Carruth and wife Michelle of Milburn OK, Annie Cleavinger and husband Ty of Wildorado: her treasured grandchildren, Skylar and Swayde Cleavinger, and Jason and Jacob Ortiz; sister, Jean Hardman and husband Sace of Panhandle; brother, Michael Smith and wife Erin of Noble, OK; sister in law, JoAnne Smith of Guthrie Ok; step-sister, Tanya Hefner of Happy; many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Her legacy of kindness, warmth, and love for each of them will live on in all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Mary Hart; brother, Terry Smith; step-sister, Janis Maupin; and step-brother, Mart Hart.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
Rest in peace, Granny. You will be forever missed and always cherished in our hearts.
