Robert Eugene Adcock

Robert Eugene Adcock, 89, of Pampa, passed away at his home in Pampa with his family by his side.

Graveside services will be 12:00 PM, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery with Keith Feerer of Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ, officiating, and Robert’s family eulogizing his service. Burial and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael- Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

Mr. Adcock will be available for viewing on Thursday, December 24, 2020 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Robert Eugene Adcock was born on October 27, 1931 in Hemphill County in a community south of Canadian, TX to Joseph and Lena May Adcock.  He started to school in Higgins, Texas. In addition, his family has lived in Bethany and Poteau Oklahoma and then moved to Panhandle, Texas where Robert attended Jr. high and high school.  Following his graduation from high school in 1950 he went to work for a parts house in Amarillo, Texas as an automotive machinist.  Following the death of his father he moved back to Panhandle to help his mother. He worked there for an auto dealer as a mechanic and machinist until 1955.

After being out of high school for five years Robert and this brother, Carl, started at Texas Tech College (University) in 1955. Robert worked his way through college as a machinist and mechanic. After the third year in college, he married Ruby Fay Peterson (his wife of 61 years) in August 1959 following her graduation from Texas Tech. Ruby taught school the next two years to put Robert through school. After laying out of college for a year following the birth of their first son, Robert graduated from Texas Tech in August 1961 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

While working and going to school Robert fulfilled his military obligation by serving in the Texas National Guard 36^th Division for eight years where he held the rank of Sergeant First Class as a Communications Chief.

Following graduation from college Robert went to work for Cabot Corporation’s engineering office in Pampa, Texas. He later transferred to Cabot’s carbon black plant in Big Spring, Texas where he worked as a Maintenance Engineer for 5 years. He later transferred to Cabot’s new plant in Waverly, West Virginia as the Maintenance Superintendent.  Following that, he transferred back to the Cabot Engineering office in Pampa as the Mechanical Group Leader.  After seven years there, he transferred to Cabot’s R&D Section where he stayed until his retirement in 1990 after 28 years of service with Cabot.  He served the next four years as an independent consultant contractor for Cabot.  Robert loved all sports.  He played high school football, basketball, baseball and ran track.  After college he played competitive tennis in many local and area tournaments until he was 75 years old.  He loved playing mixed tennis doubles with his wife Ruby.  He also had several hobbies.  He made welding sculptures, stained glass lamps, boxed and window plaques.  He loved wood working and had made many furniture items for the home and family.

Robert was a Christian and he attended the Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Josephine Ayers; a brother, Carl Adcock; and by a brother-in-law, Flavil Ayers.

His survivors include his wife of the home, Ruby Adcock; two sons, Joe Adcock and wife Cindy of Heath, Ohio, and Randal Adcock of Mission, TX; by two daughters, Laura Boone and husband Danny of San Antonio and Andrea DeLoach and husband Darrell of Bushland; a sister, Patsy Fair and husband Don of Ft. Worth; a brother, Lealon Adcock and wife Nancy of Monroe, Connecticut; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren on the way; and other extended family.
