Pauline “Polly” Norene Shepherd Tubb was born April 20,1928 and passed away July 21, 2024.
Memorial services will be 11:15 am Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church of Canadian with Rev. Jimmie “Jim” Baker officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian. Public viewing will be Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Monday, July 29, 2024, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Polly was born north of Seiling, Oklahoma to Enid and Laura Barnes Shepherd who moved to Canadian when Polly was a young child. She met and married George Earl Tubb in 1951 at Pampa. He preceded her in death (1998). They had two sons: George David Tubb (wife Sue) and Gary Earl Tubb.
Polly graduated from Canadian High School and Texas Woman’s University with a degree in Business Education. She taught school at Hatch, New Mexico and West Texas State University at Canyon, Texas, while pursuing a master’s degree in business.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she played the piano and organ for worship services and Sunday school youth music for many years. She was past president of the P.E.O. Sisterhood—Chapter I and a 50-year Golden Girl member. Polly served on the Hemphill County Historical Committee for 13 years as well as on the board of the Canadian Independent School District.
Polly loved to paint. She was a charter member of the Sagebrush Painters, a member of the Amarillo Fine Arts Association, and was honored as the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 1968. She was selected on two different occasions to paint a watercolor for the Fall Foliage tour poster sponsored by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (1991 & 1994).
Polly shot in Highpower Rifle competitions and attended the National Matches with her sons and husband. She won the Woman’s National Championship Match Rifle Division held at Camp Perry, Ohio on five different occasions.
She was past president of Hemphill County’s American Cancer Society, delivered meals on wheels and was one of the founding members of the Wednesday Lunch Bunch. Polly loved to play the piano. She was the pianist for the Canadian Elementary School students when they sang Christmas carols and was honored in 2001 for 40 years of playing the piano for students.
Polly’s grandchildren include Jenny Tubb, Mandy Martaus (husband Luke), Taylor Tubb, Cannon Tubb, Christie Stallter (husband Nate), and Wyatt Tubb (wife Anna). Polly’s great grandchildren are Joshua, Ella, Elsie, Nadia, August, David, George, and Elijah.
