Nell Williams, 82, of Miami died Monday, December 16, 2019 in Canadian.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Miami Church of Christ with Harley Todd, officiating. Burial will be in the Miami Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Melba Gaynell “Nell” Williams was born January 29, 1937 in Miami to Paul and Pauline Sullivan. On August 5, 1955 Nell married Boyd Wood “Woody” Williams in Miami, in the living room of her parents’ home with the groom’s father, Merold “Boyd” Williams officiating. Nell graduated from Miami High School in 1955. She completed a course in Dutch at the Ostend, Belgium Hotel School, a Technical college.
In December 1973, she moved to Ostend, Belgium to do missionary work with her husband and two growing boys. This launched a career that did not end until 2003. Nell made a home, a meeting place, Bible study center, and was a hostess and teacher of children in every place they lived. She was a mentor and teacher of women everywhere It would be difficult to know how many women were baptized into Christ as the result of her teaching and influence. Other mission points were Belgium, Holland, Canterbury, England, St. Petersburg, Perm, Russia; Kiev, Ukraine, Paramaribo, Suriname State College, Pennsylvania.
Nell is survived by her husband, Boyd ”Woody” Williams; 2 sons, Boyd Gary Williams of Caldwell and James Kevin Williams and wife Debbie of Redmond, Oregon; 7 grandchildren, Molly, Timothy and Ethan of Redmond, Oregon, Hesper Holland of Lubbock, Lauren Ford of San Antonio, Erin Aaron of Lubbock and Elaine Coulter of Santa Fe; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Wilma Lou Nelson and nieces Gail, Lou Ann and Lisa.
