Jim Purser, 81, of Canadian, stepped away with Jesus, Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Lubbock, TX.
Family visitation with family and friends will be 6:00 -7:30pm, Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Carmichael-Whatley Canadian Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jake Perkins, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
James M. Purser Jr. was born August 18, 1940, in Washita, Oklahoma in Caddo County to James & Lavona Purser Sr. He married Mary Ann Ortega on February 22, 1968. Jim and Mary Ann were blessed with 53 years of marriage. Jim began working in the oilfield at the age of 16. He traveled the world working in the oil and gas industry for more than fifty years. In 1974 he took his family to live in Singapore and then Spain before returning to Canadian in 1980. Jim worked onshore and offshore in Africa, China, Algeria and many other countries.
His family was first and foremost, he was quick and consistent in sharing his pride of his children and grandchildren, they were the light of his world. Jim was a passionate supporter of the grandkids’ sports activities and the Canadian Wildcats. He placed great value in getting an education and the opportunities that it afforded. Jim had a meticulous work ethic and high standards.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He raised his family in church. In April 2018 Jim and Mary Ann were baptized in the Canadian Church of Christ. Mary Ann said, “The Lord was with him every day!”
Jim was preceded in death by his parents James Melton Purser Sr. and Lavona Purser and brother-in-law R.C. Forman.
Survivors include wife Mary Ann Purser of the home; 2 Children: Tim Purser and wife Charity of Lubbock, Tricia Cook and husband Jim David of Canyon; 7 Grandchildren: Shelby Purser, Kyler Purser, Brayden Cook, Brody Cook, Ben Purser, Landree Purser, Mckanna Garcia; 3 Siblings: Joyce Forman, sister of Guymon, OK, Buford Purser, brother and wife Yolanda of Schertz, Gary Purser, brother and wife Jody of Amarillo.
