Charles Morehead, 77 of Canadian passed away October 9, 2018 in Canadian.
Memorial service will be 10:30 am, Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Gerhardt, Pastor, officiating. Family burial will follow later. Services are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Charles Morehead was born May 19, 1941 in Miami, Texas to Oscar W. Morehead and Vera Mae Lee Morehead. He grew up in Canadian and graduated from West Texas State University. Charles and Judy Anne Williams were married in 1963, she preceded him in death in 2012. Charles received a commission in the US Army and served with the First Armored Division at Fort Hood. He served as Administrator for the Abraham Memorial Home for six years; but, he spent most of his life working in the natural gas pipeline and distribution business. Charles served as President and Chief Operation Officer of High Plains Natural Gas Company. He was elected Chairman of the Texas Gas Association and served as Chairman of the Texas State Red River Water Authority. Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Lions Club. He had a love for photography and especially grandchildren’s sport activities. Charles loved being D-daddy to six grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Augusta Salter of Amarillo; two daughters, Melanie Lusk and husband Bob of Canadian, Melinda Young and husband Henry of Tulsa; grandchildren, Emily Parish and husband Corbin, Ethan Lusk, Elise Lusk, Logan Young, Wade Young and Addie Mae Young; numerous nieces and nephews. He was also survived by Tam Boatler and wife Wanda, Tyson Boatler and wife Katie and their daughter Emmy.
Charles was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John Morehead, Mildred Cole, Ava Hale, Walton Morehead, Glen Morehead and Virginia Whipple; a niece, Ruth Ann Adkins and two nephews Rocky Morehead and Steve Whipple.
