Gary Wayne Laubhan, 71, of Higgins, died September 17, 2017 in Canadian.Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Higgins Cemetery, with Rev. Blake Durham, pastor of Higgins United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian. Mr. Laubhan was born June 21, 1946 in Canadian and had lived in the Lipscomb/Higgins area most of his life. He graduated from Higgins High School, attended Clarendon College, and later attended West Texas State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural science. Gary was a member of the Brangus Cattle Association, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, National Cattleman’s Beef Association, and had been a cattleman and rancher all of his life. He was a lifelong member of the Higgins United Methodist Church, and he enjoyed his time tending to his cattle. Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Laubhan of the home; two brothers-in-law, Mike Kelln and companion Connie of Higgins, and David Kelln and wife Elsie of Canadian; his mother-in-law, Maryle Kelln of Canadian; and numerous cousins and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Jonah and Gertrude Laubhan. The family offers a special thanks to Mickey Province and his family for going above and beyond to help Gary for the last 2 ½ years. Mickey has fed his cattle and taken care of chores to help Gary. Gary and Mary Frances have adopted Mickey as their son. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials be sent to Higgins United Methodist Church or Hemphill County Hospice.
