Douglas Ryan Wheeler was born January 1, 1963 to John and Nancy Wheeler in Canadian. He attended Canadian schools and graduated with the class of 1981. Doug was a Godly man who loved Jesus with his whole heart and was the best dad, son, brother and husband. He died tragically when he was struck in a vehicular accident while doing what he loves— cycling. Doug loved to be on the open road and encouraged others to join him. Encouraging others to make a decision for Jesus Christ, however, was even more important to him. His calling into ministry began when he received his bachelor’s degree in pastoral care and Bible from Central Bible College. He then pastored First Assembly of God in Iberia, Missouri, Christ Victory Assembly in Salina, Kansas, and Cornerstone Christian Center in Brenham, Texas. His ultimate desire was to impact this world for Jesus Christ. In the last ten years, he took that love of people and his great personality into the banking world.
The last scripture he shared with some of his friends on the morning of his death was Psalm 37:23-24. At 12:17 p.m., God had him step into eternity to the arms of his Savior. We never know when we will exhale earth and inhale heaven. We will forever miss you ‘till we see you again.
Survived by and forever remembered, his Mom and Dad, John and Nancy Wheeler; two daughters, Brittany Neuberger and husband Greg, Brooke Wheeler and Steven Bonnell, and son, Ryan Wheeler; three grandchildren, Gavin, Grayson, and Charlotte; three brothers, Monty Wheeler and wife Dianne, Stacy Wheeler and wife Mary Jane, and Brandon Wheeler and wife Rae; nieces and nephews, Kendall, Hayden, Landon, Matthew, Jeremy Baggett, Jason Martin and Janie Shields.
The family will receive friends and family at the Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home in Canadian on Friday evening, May 24, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
Memorials may be made to the Assemblies of God World Missions, 1445 N. Boonville Ave., Springfield, MO 65802.
