Clarence Henry “Hank” McPherson, 81, of Canadian, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, October 28, 2024 at Canadian Methodist Church with Daryle Perry and David Gerhardt officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Hank was born January 21, 1943 in Canadian to William and Ethel Guffey McPherson. He attended schools in Canadian. After high school, he immediately entered the oilfield industry. He traveled all over the country doing seismograph surveying for several years before moving to California. While in California, he worked at a Thoroughbred Stud Farm and learned the art of horseshoeing. Hank would work there for about five years before returning to the Panhandle. Horseshoeing was a wonderful trade for Hank, as he continued shoeing for many years. He eventually would go to work for a welding shop and then opened his own shop for 10 years. Hank then started working for Diamond Shamrock and retired from Maxus after 40 years in 2005.
Hank married Venita Haynes on March 19, 1990 in Canadian. They celebrated over 34 years of marriage and had a lot of adventures together. When they both retired, they would spend the next 15 summers in Fun Valley playing in bands and handling the entertainment for families.
Hank was a longtime member of the Canadian Methodist Church and was a wonderful hospice volunteer since 1996. Hank’s passion in life was playing music. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 14, self-taught and he played by ear only. He never learned to read music. Over the years he played in multiple bands, and just loved to play anytime there was a gathering. He enjoyed playing alongside his son, Dennis and his brothers. Hank was a people person; he loved to visit and tell stories. Hank also enjoyed talking about horse racing and past Triple Crown winners with his son, Kenny. He was a great friend to so many, as he never met a stranger. He loved and picked on everyone. Hank had a nickname for every family member and even those who were not part of the family. He was a true jokester, as he enjoyed playing pranks all the time. Hank’s quick wit will be missed by all who truly knew him. His hobbies included fishing and camping, and when he was younger, he enjoyed flying his own plane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dennis Lane McPherson, Darrell McPherson, and Freddy McPherson; sister, Connie Spicer; two great granddaughters, Kadence Cox and Kambria Cox.
Survivors include his wife, Venita of the home; daughter, Liz Hund and husband Charlie of Granbury; two sons, Dennis McPherson and wife Amy of Dumas and Kenny McPherson and wife Jackie of Canadian; bonus daughter, Angela Oberoi and husband Pawan of Houston; bonus son, Dewayne Evans of Canadian; two brothers, Hob McPherson of La Honda, California and Gary Spicer of Shattuck, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Hilary Cox, Kenzie Stucki and husband Grant, Matthew McPherson and wife Clarissa, Quentin McPherson and wife Cely, Abbey Hund, Kyle Hund and Starr Bruton, Alisha Downey and husband Jake, Chaley Hext and J.D.
