Joyce Cockrell

Carolyn Joyce Cockrell, 88, of Canadian formally of Amarillo was enveloped in God’s peace and love on January 9, 2024, in Canadian.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Gage Memorial Cemetery in Gage, OK with Terry Tyson officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Joyce Moyer was born April 18, 1935, to Melvin and Ester Moyer of Gage, OK in the Shattuck Hospital.  While growing up she enjoyed the comforts of the largest town in the county at the time, Gage, during the school year, and experienced the great outdoors in the country in the summertime at the family ranch/farm. She moved with her family to Pampa, Tx where she attended and finished high school.

She was a loving and kind ‘Mom’ to Mel, Dan, and Amy whom she had with Buddy Cockrell while living in Pampa. She filled many stomachs with amazing meals that a lot of times included her ‘Ranch Style Biscuits.’ She enjoyed painting, church activities and worship, and helped bring hospice to Pampa. She adored the fellowship that PEO brought her in Pampa and Amarillo since 1978. Her degree in Interior Design, that she earned after moving to Amarillo, helped to beautify many homes and businesses in the Texas Panhandle. She was a beautiful lady with a golden heart that always had encouraging words for everyone she was around. Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father and mother, Melvin and Ester Moyer, and Buddy Cockrell.

Those left to cherish her memory are Mel Cockrell, Dan (Drucy) Cockrell, daughter, Amy (Kyle) Best; Sisters, Ann McKay, Jane (Richard) Harris; brother, Ned (Ulli) Moyer; Grandsons, Clint (Jordan) Cockrell, Clay (Samantha) Cockrell, Klancy (Kaysha) Best, Trey Best, Ty Cockrell, 8 great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and numerous friends.
