Carol Colleen Reid, 88, of Canadian, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at her home in Canadian.
Due to our current health conditions and regulations a private family memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 1, 2020 at Edith Ford Cemetery with Rev. Lewis Holland officiating. We encourage friends to attend the graveside and stay inside their vehicles, we will be able to broadcast the service over the radio. Our staff will deliver memorial folders and give instructions once you arrive at the cemetery. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Carol was born March 14, 1932 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Paul and Helen Chaney. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950 and went on to attend a community college in Tennessee. Carol married J.B. Reid, Jr. in 1956; he passed away in 2004 after 48 years of marriage. They made their home in Canadian where she was able to be a stay at home mom to her three children. After her kids graduated, she began to work with her husband at Reid Insurance Agency. They operated the agency for many years in Canadian. Carol was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Canadian and was voted Woman of the Year in 1990 in her community. Painting was a passion of Carol’s and she was particularly good at her artwork. She was a member of the Canadian Arts and Alliance and was named artist of the year. She displayed a lot of her artwork at the art center and surrounding communities. Carol loved to help others and enjoyed volunteering at Meals on Wheels over the years. In her spare time Carol played golf with J.B. and could spend hours playing bridge. She loved her family and enjoyed spending most holidays together at her home with all her family present. Being “Granny” to her 5 grandchildren and great grandchildren was something she cherished, and she loved them all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Britt Reid, her grandson, Dax Robinett, and a son-in-law, Doyle Furgason.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Lisa Lopez and husband Mike of Ruidoso, New Mexico and Candy Furgason of Canadian; 4 grandchildren, Reid Betts, Megan Betts, Tara Salazar, and Justin Reid; and 4 great grandchildren.
