Bettye was born January 19,1943 to Jospeh Milton and Marceille Bell Parr in Vernon. She graduated from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth with a Bachelors degree in Home Economics. Bettye began her working career as a County Extension Agent in Cleburne, Johnson County where she met and married John T. Cooke. To this marriage was born a son Milton Carroll. Later she served as County Agent in Seymour, then moved to Denton, where she received her master’s degree in Food and Nutrition from Texas Women’s University. She then moved to Beaumont to serve as an extension agent in Jefferson County. She married Richard W. Jones in 1987. Upon Richard’s passing she moved to Amarillo and then Canadian to be near her son and daughter in law. Bettye was instrumental in raising Milton as a single mother and encouraging him to be active in 4-h and be involved in cooking and showing livestock. She took Milton fishing and camping and made sure he was raised being exposed to the outdoor lifestyle, even though she didn’t necessarily enjoy it herself. Bettye enjoyed cooking, reading cookbooks, writing recipes and creating cookbooks for her church and other organizations. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, each of them was very special to her. Her favorite title other than Mom was Meemaw.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Richard W. Jones; sister and brother-in-law ZoElla and Jerry Thiomas; and a sister, Twylia Parr.
