Betty June Talley

October 5, 1926 — January 28, 2022

Betty June Giles Talley, 95, of Canadian stepped over into glory on January 28, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Canadian with Sherye Talley officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Betty was born to James "Jim" and Margaret Giles in Medicine Lodge, Kansas on October 5, 1926. Betty went to school there until her senior year when the family moved to Amarillo, Texas. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1944. She met the love of her life, John Talley, who was her brother's friend, a seaman in the Navy during WWII. As they continued to write to each other they fell in love. John and Betty were married on September 26, 1945 while he was on leave. Upon discharge from the Navy the couple made their home in Amarillo, Texas. They would live there several years before moving to Canadian, Texas in 1967, spending the remainder of their years there. Betty worked several jobs before going to work for the Canadian Pharmacy where she remained for 30 plus years. During her time there she touched many lives. She always let her love of the Lord shine through her life and always had a smile on her face. Working at the Pharmacy was her favorite job. She retired in 2007, when her husband became ill and took care of him until he passed away in 2008. They were married for 62 years. She was very active in her church, teaching Sunday School and sharing her love of God's word and His goodness. Her life reflected this. She loved working in her yard, feeding the birds, wildflowers, picking up rocks, taking pictures of bluebonnets and going to the beach.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Margaret Giles, her husband John C. Talley, and her brother Jimmy Giles.

She is survived by her sister, Pat Howe of Amarillo; her 2 daughters, Debbie Talley of Milwaukee Wisconsin and Sherye Talley of Canadian; son, Rob Talley and wife Lynne of Canadian. She has 4 grandchildren, Erin Knowlton and husband Carl and Jeremy Schaber all of Milwaukee Wisconsin, and Ayvrie Dixon and husband Josh of Amarillo, and Ashlee Salinas and husband Eddie of Canadian; 3 great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Jace Dixon and Edward Salinas; also several nieces and nephews, and an extended family of grandchildren and great grandchildren that she loved very much. A special thank you to LaRae for taking such good care of mom while she was in the nursing home and helping her through her hard times.
