Abel Martinez, 70, of Canadian passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on April 2, 2020.
Due to our current health conditions in our community and government regulations for small gatherings there will be a private family service in Carmichael-Whatley Canadian Chapel on Monday, April 6, 2020 at 1:00 PM. We will be able to broadcast his service through a RF Transmitter radio if you are parked in our parking lot. It will only reach a two-block distance from the funeral home. We will have details at the funeral home.
Abel was born July 11, 1949 in San Vicente, Mexico to Isidoro and Guadalupe Martinez. He married Petra Rios on September 5, 1971 in Mexico. They moved to Canadian in 1973 and began to work for a ranch. He worked there for several years before starting his career in the oil field, he retired in 2016. After retirement, Abel began his landscaping and lawn service. He enjoyed singing, playing his accordion, and loved his cattle back in Mexico. Abel was a longtime member of the Spanish Revival Center. He loved being “Welo” to his 9 grandchildren and they loved him. He was loved by all of his nieces and nephews and he was always willing to help them in any way when he could.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Maria Angelina Carillo and Juana Nava; a brother, Alberto Martinez; and a son in law, Ramiro Ponce.
He is survived by his wife, Petra of the home; 3 daughters, Norma Ponce of Canadian, Mary Ann Baca and husband Ezequiel and Adriana Flores all of Oklahoma City, OK; a son, Abel Martinez, Jr. and wife Maria of Canadian; 2 sisters, Victoria Palacios and husband Juan Antonio of San Angelo, and Maria Reyes Hernandez and husband Antonio of Mexico; 3 brothers, Maurillo Martinez and wife Hermelinda, Eduardo Martinez and wife Dora Elia, and Jesus Martinez all of Mexico; 9 grandchildren, Erika Sanchez and husband Daniel, Marcos Trevino, Isaac Trevino, Joshua Martinez, Caleb Martinez, Jeremiah Martinez, Jacqueline Flores, Jesus Flores, and Mae Rose Martinez; and 1 great grandson, Eli Wyatt Martinez.
