Services for Mary Jo Proffitt, 82, of Memphis, TX, will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Church of Christ in Memphis, TX, with Tom Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mrs. Proffitt passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 in Memphis, TX. She was born on February 29, 1924 in Duncan, OK to the late Mr. Ruben Stewart Lowe and Mrs. Laura Alice (Chamblin) Lowe. She grew up in Hedley, TX and graduated from Hedley High School in 1944. She married George Proffitt on June 14, 1944 in Clarendon, TX. They have resided in Hall county since 1946. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Memphis, TX and was a housewife. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Anderson and Dorothy Lowe. She is survived by her husband, George, of Memphis, TX; one daughter, Joan Whitten and husband Warren of Memphis, TX; two sons, Don Proffitt and wife Janet of Amarillo, TX and Gary Proffit and wife Amanda of Amarillo, TX; one brother, Bill Lowe of Pampa, TX; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the church or charity of your choice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2006.
