Services for Mr. Jackie Rutledge, 68, of Canadian, TX, will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Stohler, officiating. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Rutledge passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2010 in Canadian, TX. Jackie was born August 17, 1942 in Canadian, TX to the late Mr. Jack Rutledge and Mrs. Katherine (Vaught) Rutledge. He attended Baker Elementary School, Valley Park School and was a 1961 graduate of Canadian High School. He then went on to attend West Texas State University in Canyon, TX. He was married to Faye Marsh. Jackie was happiest in the country and lived his life taking care of horses, cows, baby calves and the land he loved. He lived life on his own terms and found pleasure in his dog and the fish in his pond. But he also loved to drive into to town for a meal and a chance to see friends he loved and could talk with. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Jackie’s life and death leave a lasting legacy and his strong spirit, faith, perseverance and love will live on in the hearts of all who loved him, his family and most especially his nephew, Chaz Rutledge and dear friend Teresa Williams. He was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church in Canadian, TX. He is survived by one brother, Carl Rutledge and wife Bettye of Flatonia, TX; two sisters, Mary Colson and husband Bill of Dallas, TX; Beth Rutledge Morgan of Bryan, TX; two nephews, Chaz Rutledge and Joseph Morgan both of Canadian, TX; four nieces, Carla Schaub and husband Roland of Lampasas, TX; Jennie Ruth Rodriguez and husband Sam of Tokyo, Japan; Leah Austin and husband Dennis of Seattle, WA; Amanda Heier and husband Keith of San Francisco, CA and a long time friend Teresa Williams of Shiner, TX. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church, 706 Main St., Canadian, TX 79014.
