Helen Combs

Services for Mrs. Helen Combs, 97, of Memphis, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Church of Christ with Tom Anderson, officiating and Rev. Robert G. Blum, assisting. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Mrs. Combs passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 in Childress, TX. Helen was born March 4, 1913 to the late Mr. Luther Dickey and Mrs. Sedera (Wilson) Dickey. She was a 1930 graduate of Wellington High School. She married Herschel Adrian Combs Sr. on January 16, 1931 in Wellington, TX. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1973. They moved to Memphis, TX in 1944 from Wellington, TX. Helen was society editor for the Memphis Democrat which they owned and operated for many years. She was a member of the 1913 study club, Memphis Little Theater and played bridge with many different clubs in town. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Memphis Chamber of Commerce. She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Driscoll. She is survived by two sons, Herschel Adrian Combs Jr. and Billy Allen Combs and wife Tanya all of Memphis, TX; one daughter, Patsy Welch and husband A.J. of Burnett, TX; one sister, Glendell Norman and husband J.E. of Edmond, OK; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
