Lela Foard

Services for Lela Foard, 96, of Memphis, TX, will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Memphis, TX, with Rev. Daniel Downey officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mrs. Foard passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2006 in Amarillo, TX. She was born on January 24, 1910 in Hardeman County, TX to the late Mr. Charley Gravley and Mrs. Lula May (McDaniel) Gravley. She grew up in Quanah, TX and later moved with her family to Hollis, OK. She married David Pratt Foard on April 18, 1931 in Hollis. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1971. She had lived in Memphis since 1948. Mrs. Foard worked as a cook for public schools in Carey, TX and Memphis, TX. She and her husband were also janitors at the Hall County Courthouse for 25 years. She retired in 1973. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Foard was also faithful to attend family reunions, and never missed one since 1948. She loved to quilt with her friends at the Senior Citizens Center for many years, and was very particular with the finished product. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Foard was preceded in death by 13 siblings. She is survived by one son, David Duane Foard and wife Marilyn of Amarillo, TX; one grandson, Orin David; and two great grandchildren, Alexandria and Cade. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 726, Memphis, TX 79245. The family will be gathering at 819 N. 18th in Memphis.
