Graveside services for Mr. John Sutton, 74, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 27, 2009 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Matt Cook, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Sutton passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009. John was born November 19, 1935 in Bokoshe, OK to the late Mr. Louis Sutton and Mrs. Minnie (Johnson) Sutton. John was a retired Sergeant of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam Era. He spent 20 years in the service the last 6 years in missile system in Cheyenne, WY. John was stationed in Okinawa Japan for one year where he was a jet mechanic and later transferred to missiles. He moved to Canadian, TX in 1977 from Alva, OK. He married Jeanne Wafford on November 15, 1980 in Canadian, TX. He worked for the City of Canadian in the water and sewer department until retiring in 1999. John was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Post 56. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Gordon Sutton. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Sutton of Canadian, TX; one son, Lawrence Sutton of Joplin, MO; five daughters, Rhonda Label of Lawton, OK; Nancy Zamora and husband Vince of Duncan, OK; Cindy Phariss and husband Eddie of Midland, TX; Judy Sutton of Midland, TX; Elizabeth Strong and husband James of Gatesville, TX; three step sons, Russell and Mike Dake both of Canadian, TX; Danny Dake of Woodward, OK; one step-daughter, Elaine Hand and husband J.D. of Higgins, TX; three brothers, Ken Sutton and wife Cindy of Casa Grande, AZ; Carl Sutton and wife Billie of Arizona City, AZ; Ronald Sutton and wife Margie of Deerfield, MI; two sisters, Myrna Joyce Kinney of Panama, OK; Delores “Dody” Stewart of Arizona City, AZ; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
