Graveside Services for Charles "Charlie" M. Morris, 83, of Memphis, TX, will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX, with Rev. Gary Boles officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mr. Morris passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2006 in Amarillo, TX. He was born on November 13, 1922 in Toyah, TX to the late Mr. Clyde E. Morris and Mrs. Viola Allen (Scott) Morris. He attended school in Toyah and Sanderson, TX and graduated from high school in Memphis, TX in 1942. Mr. Morris went directly into the United States Navy and served as a gunner's mate for five years, 3 months and 6 days, until being discharged in October of 1947. He lived in Amarillo, TX for several years, where he worked for Pantex. He returned to Memphis and worked for the Soil Conservation Service. Mr. Morris married Jo Murdock Hawkins on September 21, 1973 in Memphis. She preceded him in death on August 29, 2000. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three sisters, Nancy Carolyn Morris, Mamie Grace Williams and Marjorie Hancock. He is survived by four children, Jay Morris of Amarillo, TX; Kay Clack of Chulavista, CA; Kenny Hawkins of Odessa, TX; and Debbie Walker of Shamrock, TX; one sister, Marie McMurry of Amarillo, TX; four brothers, Clyde Morris of Silver City, NM, Campbell Morris of Richmond, VA, Robert "Bobby" Morris of Beaumont, TX and James "Jimmy" Morris of Conroe, TX; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Fairview Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 265, Memphis, TX 79245.
