Leroy Edward “Ed” Mort, 74, of Canadian, passed away on April 1, 2017. Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Abundant Life Church with Rev. Barry Hosford, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian. Mr. Mort was born in Arkansas City, Kansas, and attended the Ark City schools. He enlisted in the army, serving as a sharp-shooter during his six years’ enlistment (1960-1966), and he is a veteran of the Korean War. He met Betty Hilario in Ark City and they were married on November 7, 1966. He did many different jobs throughout his life, saying of himself that he was “a jack of all trades. I can fix anything but a broken heart.” He worked at Hardberger & Smylie and at Eddie’s Oilfield Service. Ed was loved and respected by many. No one will forget the way he was not afraid to speak his mind, and his outspoken character will remain in his family’s hearts. He loved his time with his family and enjoyed fishing any chance he got. He was a beloved member of Abundant Life Church in Canadian, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Mort; their two daughters, Trudy Ray Mort Ochoa and husband Jesse, and Amy Natasha Mort Dial and husband Justin; two granddaughters, Julia Sandoval and husband Jario, Elizabeth Crowley and husband Branson; and 5 great-grandchildren, Eli and Elodie Dial, Julian and Jewelz Sandoval, and Emorie Crowley; two brothers, Steven Mort and James Mort; three sisters, Bernice Reiniger, Alice Parker, and Leanna Sivils; and many nieces and nephews he cherished and loved. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jess and LaVerne Mort; two brothers, Jesse Orland Mort and Terry Lynn Mort; and one sister, Sondra Marie Rodgers.
