Gary Dorman, 69, of Canadian, died March 30, 2017 in Canadian. Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, April 6, 2017, at The River Ministries, with Pastor Donald Hill, officiating. Burial will follow in Lipscomb Cemetery in Lipscomb, with military honors courtesy of U. S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian. Mr. Dorman was born October 16, 1947 in Concordia, Kansas to Jimmie and Marie Wurtz Dorman. He attended rural Hillcrest Elementary School in Cloud County, Kansas. Gary was a 1965 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Concordia, Kansas. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy from September 12, 1967 until September 11, 1973, serving during the Vietnam War. Gary married Ramona Menzies in 1971. Their two sons were born of this union. He farmed in rural Cloud County, Kansas until he retired in 2000 when he moved to Canadian and met Karen Hill-Krehbiel. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Survivors include Karen Hill-Krehbiel of the home; his father Jimmie Dorman and wife Janet of Canadian; two sons Doug Dorman and wife April of Clay Center, Kansas, and Matt Dorman and fiancée Nicole of Burlington, Colorado; three stepchildren, Julie Osborne and husband Jeff of Amarillo, and Krista Belk and husband Jamey, and Frank Krehbiel and wife Lindsy, all of Canadian; 12 grandchildren, Anna Dorman and fiancé Konnor Hamel and Brayden Dorman, all of Clay Center, Kansas, Sgt. Taylor Lawson of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Mia Lawson of Manhattan, Kansas, Jillian Underwood of Burlington, Colorado, David Osborne and Autumn Osborne, both of Amarillo, Jace Belk, Trae Krehbiel, Bralee Krehbiel, Brooke Krehbiel and Brynne Krehbiel, all of Canadian; three brothers, Mike Dorman and wife Bari, Tim Dorman and wife Susan, and Jamie Dorman and wife Jessi, all of Burlington, Colorado; four sisters, Kathy Thoman and husband Greg and Loretta Meats and husband Carl, all of Concordia, Kansas, Rita Marken and husband Craig of Lawrence, Kansas, and Connie Hawkinson and husband Earl of Aurora, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Dorman; and a brother, Douglas Dorman. Memorials may be made to a VA hospital of choice, treating COPD. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
