VIEW VIDEOTRIBUTEGraveside services for Mr. Jim Bussard, 85, of Lipscomb, TX will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Lipscomb Cemetery with Donald Hill, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Bussard passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in Lipscomb, Texas. Jim was born November 20, 1923 in Canadian, TX to the late Mr. Lloyd Bussard and Mrs. Mildred (Keffer) Bussard. The Canadian river was flooded at the time so they had to place Mrs. Bussard in a basket attached to a cable to get her across the river. Then returning home the family decided to take Jim back across the river in the basket. He attended grammar school at Locust Grove and was a 1941 graduate of Canadian High School. He then went on to attend Panhandle State University. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II in the South Pacific. He married Mona Turner on May 5, 1953 in Tucumcari, NM. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2002. Jim retired from ranching a year ago and so did his horse Buck. He was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church and was also a lifelong resident of Lipscomb County. He is survived by two sons, Lane Hill and wife Brenda of Darrouzett, TX; Lance Bussard and wife Tanja of Lipscomb, TX; one daughter, LaVaun Kraft and husband Merle of Lipscomb, TX; one sister, Katie Thorne of Amarillo, TX; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to the Wolf Creek Heritage Museum, P.O. Box 5 Lipscomb, TX 79056. Viewing will be available at the First Christian Church Chapel at 402 Purcell Ave in Canadian.
