Memorial service for Joni Gayle Davis, 56, of Pampa, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Richard Bartel, officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Joni passed from this life, in her home, on the morning of February 7, 2016. It is likely that because the Cowboys wouldn’t be playing in the Super Bowl later that day, she and God decided it was time they finally met. Joni was born July 20, 1959 in Ceres, CA, to the late Aletha Raye (Smith) Davis and Billy Davis. She brought with her, into this world, a stubborn single-mindedness all her own as well as capacity to love that was unparalleled. Joni was a long time resident of Pampa, TX and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved to bowl and was even part of the Celanese League in Pampa years ago. She was also a volunteer at Pampa Regional Medical Center for several years. Joni loved her Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Cubs baseball, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and A&W Root Beer (in a can). More than all of these, however, she loved her family. She was relentlessly loyal, fiercely protective and if you, family or not, made it onto her Christmas card list, you remained there. The world is certainly darker in her absence. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. She is survived by her father, Bill Davis of Pampa, TX; three brothers, Scott Davis of Pampa, TX; Craig Davis and wife Amy of Friendswood, TX; Tim Davis of Pampa, TX; three sisters, Jan Shaw and husband Charlie of League City, TX; Gay-Lynn Couts and husband Clint of Pampa, TX; Lisa Gill and husband Chris of Canadian, TX. She also leaves behind 15 nieces and nephews, 9 great-nieces and nephews and countless friends she considered family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to: Lone Star Angel Project, P.o. Box 303, Canadian, TX 79014 or Calvary Baptist Church, Children’s Camp, 900 East 23rd St., Pampa, TX 79065.
