Services for Mrs. Patti Sloan Nivens, 79, of Estelline, TX will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Memphis, TX with Rev. Robert G. Blum, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Patti passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 in Memphis, TX. Patti was born January 20, 1930 in Hall County to the late Mr. C.L. Sloan Jr. and Mrs. Sam (Noel) Sloan. She was a 1947 graduate of Estelline High School. She then went on to graduate from North Texas State University in 1950 with a degree in education. She married Joe Bob Nivens in 1954. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1994. She was a life long resident of Hall County and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She taught school in Estelline and Lakeview until retiring in 1993. She was preceded in death by one brother, C.L. “Laddie” Sloan III. She is survived by two sons, Steve Pardue and wife Autumn of Jacksboro, TX; Brent Nivens of Estelline, TX; one daughter, René Miller and husband John of Estelline, TX; her sister-in-law, Pat Bell and husband Crews of Amarillo, TX; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to the Estelline Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 32, Estelline, TX 79233.
