Graveside services for Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Baxter, 77, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Rick Timmons, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. Baxter passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009 in Wellington, Texas. Elizabeth was born February 21, 1931 in Wheeler County to the late Mr. C.E. Childress and Mrs. Etta Lee (Rankin) Childress. She attended schools in Canadian. She married Floyd E. Baxter on August 1, 1957 in Clovis, NM. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2002. Elizabeth worked as a dietitian for Canadian Independent School District for 18 years. She was an avid bowler. She bowled in tournaments as far away as Las Vegas and New York City. She and her family were also involved in rodeos for many years. She was a lifelong resident of Canadian and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Lynn Martin, two brothers, J.R. Childress and Winaford Childress and one sister, Juanita Sumerall. She is survived by one son, Shaffer Baxter and wife Susie of Canadian, TX; her grandchildren, Matt Martin and wife Karen of San Antonio, TX; Heather Helms and husband Cody, Shawn Baxter and Jason Martin all of Canadian, TX; and her great-grandchildren, Kalee and Abby Helms both of Canadian, TX. The family suggests memorials be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
