Funeral services for Martha Rachel Pittman, age 85 of Amarillo, Texas and formerly of Memphis, will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Hughs Memorial Chapel in Memphis, Texas, with Tom Anderson, Minister of the Church of Christ in Memphis, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mrs. Pittman passed away on Monday, January 12, 2009 in Amarillo, Texas. She was born on April 8, 1923 in Memphis, Texas to the late Roy and Minnie (Hickerson) Sweatt. She graduated from Lakeview High School, and went on to attend Drone’s Business College in Amarillo. She married Luther Nyal Pittman on December 5, 1945 in Memphis. She had lived in Amarillo since 1950, and was a member of the Golden Spread Gem & Mineral group and of the Trinity Baptist Church of Amarillo. She was a homemaker. She is survived by two sons, Roy Nyal Pittman of Griffin, GA, and Billy Wayne Pittman of Amarillo; two grandsons, Kyle Wayne Pittman, and Schuyler Ivey Pittman and fiancé Rie Martini; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Nyal Pittman, and one grandson, Mathew Wayne Pittman. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009 from 5-7 PM at Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, 1601 I-40 West, Amarillo, TX 79109, or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 411 S. Fillmore Street, Amarillo, TX 79101.
