Memorial services for William “Bill” Bartlett, 94, of Canadian, TX will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ed Cooley, officiating. A private inurnment will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Bartlett passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 in Amarillo, TX. Bill was born December 6, 1914 to the late Mr. C.W. Bartlett and Mrs. Mabel (Ross) Bartlett. He graduated high school in Dallas, TX. He then went on to attend college at Southern Methodist University and University of Oklahoma. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. Bill was a 1st Lieutenant and a forward observer for the Cannon Company 385th Infantry Regiment. He married Fermanetta Sawyer on November 10, 1940 in Canadian, TX. Bill was owner and operator of Bartlett Enterprise until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Canadian Lions Club. He also served as past mayor for Canadian, TX. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Jim Bartlett three sisters, Francis Fix, Lucy Johnson and Tootie Bush and one grandson, Tim Bartlett on November 1, 1989. He is survived by his wife Fermanetta Bartlett of Canadian, TX; two sons, Tom Bartlett and wife Sue and Terrill Bartlett and wife Ronda all of Canadian, TX; three daughters, Zanne Ness and husband Terry of Bismarck, ND; Jane Brenner and husband Fred of Weatherford, TX; Laura Breakfield and husband Bill of Crandall, TX; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to your favorite charity.
