Services for Norma Lee Laubhan, 88, of Higgins, TX will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Blake Durham, officiating. Burial will follow in Higgins Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Norma Lee passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 in Canadian, TX. Norma Lee was born January 8, 1927, in Higgins, TX to the late Mr. Alex Laubhan and Mrs. Hanna Laubhan. She was a 1944 graduate of Higgins High School. She then went on to receive a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting in 1949 from Texas Tech University. Norma Lee helped her father operate the family business Higgins Lumber Company from the late 1940’s until 1965. She then owned and operated Laubhan’s Grocery Store from the late 1960’s until the early 1970’s. In the late 1970’s until the early 1980’s, she owned a couple of race horses which she enjoyed going to watch them race. She moved to the Continental Retirement Center in Amarillo in 2008. In August of 2013, she moved Mesa View Assisting Living Center in Canadian where she was one of the first residents. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded by her brother, Alex Laubhan Jr. and wife Lucille, two sisters, Rosa Johnson and husband Knox and Esther Barton and husband Clifford, her nephew, Ronnie Johnson. She is survived by her nieces, Johanna Ashley, whom she thought as her daughter and husband Mitch of Canadian, TX; Judy Fehlmann of Broomfield, CO; Carrie Ingram of Las Cruces, NM; her nephew, Donnie Johnson of Higgins, TX; her great-nephews, John Salem Ashley and wife Rebecca of Higgins, TX; Caleb Barton Ashley of Dallas, TX; Will Johnson; Keith Tucker and wife Natalia of Watrous, NM; her great- nieces, Gretchen Elizabeth Ashley of Fort Worth, TX; Donita Cartmill and husband Andy of Platteville, WI; Kristin Fehlmann of Meeker, CO; Deborah Northcott of Denver, CO; Shari Mehler and husband Lee of Albuquerque, NM; her great-great-nephews, Alex Tucker and Alec Ashley; her great-great-nieces, Kelly and Lindsey Tucker, Brandi Mehler and Kiera Northcott.
