Graveside services for Jonah Laubhan, age 93, will be at 2 PM on Friday, December 12, 2008 in Higgins Cemetery in Higgins, TX with Monte Kreis, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Canadian, officiating. Burial will follow in Higgins Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian. Mr. Laubhan passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008 in Canadian. Jonah was born on October 22, 1915 south of Shattuck, Oklahoma to the late Karl and Katherine (Reisig) Laubhan. He attended school at Willow Creek and Lipscomb, and lived most of his life in the area northwest of Higgins. He married Gertrude Appel in November 1937, and she preceded him in death on November 13, 1998. He lived, breathed and loved cattle ranching, and was also known for his love of music and dancing. At the home where he spent the last 8 years, he was known to be very fond of the Waltz. He was a past member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association and of the National Cattleman’s Association, and had served on the Higgins ISD School Board. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Higgins where he had served on several official church boards. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters and a brother. Survivors include a son, Gary Laubhan and wife Mary; one sister, Lorene Hostutler and husband David; one special niece, Mary Lynn Schafer; and a host of extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Edward Abraham Memorial Home Activity Department, 803 Birch, Canadian, TX 79014.
