Graveside services services for Jim Lay, 83, of Canadian, TX will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2006 at Scott Cemetery in Vinita, OK with Rev. John Lay, officiating. Services are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Lay died Monday, January 23, 2006 in Canadian, TX. Mr. Lay was born on May 31, 1922 in Estella, OK to the late Mr. William Lay and Mrs. Lela Calvert Lay. He attended schools in Estella, OK. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II. He moved to Canadian, TX in 1964 from Ulysses, KS. He married Billie Ornder on May 2, 1994 in Miami, OK. He was a self employed heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Billie Lay of Canadian, TX; three sons, William Lay of Bushland, TX; Rev. John Lay of Tulsa, OK; Jeff Lay of Sweetwater, TX; two daughters, Karen Lay and Janice Schafer both of Canadian, TX; four sisters, Louise Bowie, Wanda Walker and Laverne Walker all of Vinita, OK; Wilma Huff of Cleveland, OK; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren The family suggests memorials to the Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S 4th, Canadian, TX 79014 or the Amarillo Veterans Medical Hospital, 6010 Amarillo Blvd. West, Amarillo, TX 79109
