Memorial service for Dr. Dean English, 63, of Canadian, TX will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Texas Crown Performance Hall with Rick Fancher, officiating and John Wheeler, Tim Kelley, Michael Kennedy and Guy Langson, assisting. Cremation is under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Dean passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in Canadian, TX. Dean was born March 8, 1951 in Corpus Christi, TX to the late Mr. Nelson English and Mrs. Marie (Barton) English. He was a 1970 graduate of Bellaire High School in Houston. He then went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Greek from Abilene Christian College in 1975. He married Kelly Turner on September 20, 1981 in Lubbock, TX. From 1974 to 1994 Dean worked as a Missionary in Scotland. Dean helped to re establish the congregation at Hyvots Bank in Edinburgh, Scotland and then went on to join in the establishment of the congregation in Livingston, Scotland along with 5 other families who lived in the area. He established a printing ministry that served the churches in Scotland, England and Ireland. During his mission days in Scotland he became the Scottish, British, European and World Champion in Olympic Weightlifting where he continued with his competition weightlifting until 1992. From 1990 to 1991 he received his MTh in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Edinburgh. Then from 1991 to 1994 Dean received his Ph.D. in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Edinburgh. In 1994, Dean and his family moved back to the United States where he became the Family Life and Pulpit Minister with Campus Church of Christ in Gainesville, FL. He also helped with problem solving and conflict resolution, leadership training, counseling (marital, personal, and grief), preaching and teaching, small group dynamics, community relations, event planning and budget development. In 2000, he moved to Canadian where he became the Family Life and Pulpit Minister at the Church of Christ. He served as preacher, teacher, visionary planner, conflict resolution/pastoral counselor and evangelist. In 2013, Dean transitioned in fulltime counseling for the Phoenix Project. Dean was the Hemphill County Hospice Chaplain from 2000 to present. He and his family loved camping and snow skiing together in the Rockies and he enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball for a number of years. He also enjoyed training with his sons, and also trained the football boys during their summer training. He is survived by his wife, Kelly English of Canadian, TX; two sons, Jay English and wife Jessamyn of Canadian, TX ;Auston English and wife Talia of Moore, OK; three daughters, Jessica Broadway and husband Josh of Branson, MO; Ashleigh Wallace and husband Wesley of Canadian, TX; Aleisha English of Lubbock, TX; three brothers, Ron English and wife Caroline of Nolanville, TX; Don English and wife June of Medanales, NM; James English and wife Michelle of Pearland, TX; one sister, Marilynn Kendall and husband Robert of Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren, Landon Broadway, Caiden Broadway, Kenzie English, Keller English, Isaac English, Gavin English, Kaiya Wallace, Liam Wallace, Garrett Wallace and Grayson English and numerous nieces and nephews.
