Rosary services for Frank Ortega, 89, of Canadian, Texas will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Father Juan C. Barragan, officiating. Services are under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Ortega died Sunday, December 11, 2005 in Canadian, TX. Mr. Ortega was born on January 9, 1916 in Amarillo, TX to the late Mr. Jose Ortega and Mrs. Maria Corrillo Ortega. He attended schools in Mendota. He was a Veteran of the United States Army where he served in the infantry during World War II. He married Mae Chumbley on July 2, 1944 in Shamrock, TX. She preceded him in death on October 12, 1994. He moved to Canadian, TX in 1920 from Amarillo, TX. He worked as a mechanic for 40 years at Hobdy Motor Company. Frank was a lifetime member of VFW where he served as Post Commander for many years. He was an avid sportsman and a member of the Canadian Booster Club. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances Ortega on February 18, 1950. He is survived by two sons, Charles Ortega and wife Patti of Wichita Falls, TX; Bill Ortega and wife Janet of Seattle, WA; one daughter, Mary Ann Purser and husband Jim of Canadian, TX; two brothers, Raymond Ortega and Pedro Ortega both of Amarillo, TX; one sister, Josephine Garcia of Virginia Beach, VI; Six Grandchildren, Robert Ortega of Riverside, CA; Amy Wheeler of Seattle, WA; Rheagan Ortega of Austin, TX; Rachel Ortega of Wichita Falls, TX; Tim Purser of Amarillo, TX; Tricia Cook of Canyon, TX and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggest memorials be to the Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S 4th , Canadian, TX 79014 or the Abraham Edward Memorial Home, 803 Birch, Canadian, TX 79014.
