Services for Thelma Ballard, 91, of Del Rio, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Michael Coplan, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. Ballard died Saturday, November 26, 2005 in Del Rio, TX. She was born on September 23, 1914 in Buford, AR to the late Mr. John Bettis and Mrs. Mary Newton Bettis. She attended grammar school in Paden, OK and high school in Canadian, TX. She moved to Canadian in November of 1928 from Paden, OK. She married Wiley B. Ballard on December 1, 1934. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1995. They moved to Higgins in 1944 where she operated a feed and ice store. They then moved to Midland, TX where they operated a gas station until retiring in 1968. They then moved to Del Rio, TX in 1995 from Elk City, OK. She was also a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert Ballard. She is survived by two sons, Wiley Ballard and wife Barbara of Chandler, TX; Jerry Ballard and wife Diane of Madison, AL; one daughter, Marilyn Johnson of Del Rio, TX; eight grandchildren, Roger Johnson and wife Yolanda of San Antonio, TX; Karen Coplan and husband Michael of Del Rio, TX; Cheryl Stidham and husband Monty of Del Rio, TX; LaRheasa Tidwell and husband Tommy of Powder Springs, GA; Michael Ballard of Arlington, TX; Kevin Ballard and wife Lori of Siminole, FL; Kim Nichols and husband Rick of Madison, AL; Patrick Ballard and wife Stacy of Hope Mill, NC; two brothers, Harold Bettis and wife Mary of Mertzon, TX; Carl Bettis and wife Geneiva of Bullhead City, AZ; two sisters, Jean Smith of Celeste, TX; Jewel Barfield of Elk City, OK; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren The family suggest memorials to the Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S 4th, Canadian, TX 79014.
