Memorial service for Sandra King Mathers, 74, of Canadian, TX will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew McCurley, officiating. A private family burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Sandra passed away Friday, January 10, 2014 in Canadian, TX. Sandra was born October 19, 1939 in Amarillo, TX to the late Mr. Lloyd King and Mrs. Josephine (Adams) King. She was a 1957 graduate of Amarillo High and also attended Texas Tech University. She married Ben Mathers on November 27, 1959 at Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo, TX. Sandra was a member of First Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ as Savior in 1968. She kept the bed babies during Sunday school for twenty plus years. She loved to play bridge with friends and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter I. She loved being a Granny and going to all her grandchildren’s activities. Sandra also delivered Meals on Wheels. She sent birthday cards to many people in Canadian for years. Because of God’s grace and mercy, he gave Sandra peace, contentment and joy the last five years. She laughed all the time and provided joy and laughter to all the residents and staff at the Cottages. She was preceded in death by her brother, Malcom King and her sister Elaine King Randall. She is survived by her husband, Ben Mathers of Canadian, TX; two daughters, Melinda Holleman and husband Greg of Ft. Mill, SC; Laurie Hale and husband Alan of Canadian, TX; 7 grandchildren, Camille Holleman, Caleb Holleman, Whitney Holleman, Bonnie Holleman, Jennifer Hale Foster and husband Captain David Foster; Ashley Hale and Mathers Hale and great-grandchild, baby Foster, whom she will see our Heavenly Father knit together until arrival in June. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
