Jim Fry

July 4, 1954 — December 27, 2013

Services for Jim Fry, 59, of Lipscomb, TX will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Lipscomb School with Father John Lawrence, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lipscomb under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. James Lemual Fry, Jim, was born July 4, 1954 in Anchorage, Alaska when his dad was stationed in Alaska and was serving in the United States Army. His parents, Lloyd and Mary, headed home to Lipscomb County in November, 1954 with their new son. Jim grew up in Lipscomb and spent his lifetime there growing up with nature and the ranching life which he loved. He attended the Lipscomb school during his elementary years and Canadian schools in junior high and high school. He spent his boyhood years riding, roping, shooting, hunting, and farming. He often spoke of his father’s employer, rancher, Rock Cowan or Mr. Cowan as he called him, who taught him many things about ranching and life. Jim farmed for another respected man in his life, Hank Koch, who thought so much of Jim that he took him on a fishing trip to Canada as a teenage boy. After graduating high school, Jim attended TCU Ranch Management in Fort Worth where he made life time friends. His class started the TCU Ranch Management Alumni Roping which is still being held annually and which he participated in many times over the years. After graduating from TCU RM, he came home and began his lifetime of ranching and farming. On June 18, 1994, Jim married Kathy Hamilton Bussard. She brought her three children to this union, Will, Giulia, and Cheri, who loved Jim as a father. He helped raise them and when they married and brought him grandchildren, he fell in love with those babies from the get-go. Jim accepted the love of his Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized on Christmas Day, 2013. He went to be with his Lord, whom he finally believed really loved him on December 27, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Will and Mary Helen Bussard, Giulia and Red Morvan, Cheri and Levi Huntress and grandchildren, Phyllis, Pearl, and Hattie Bussard, Hope, Lindey, Cooper, and Finn Morvan, and Gracie, Eric, and Delaney Huntress. He is also survived by his father, Lloyd Fry, his sister, Barbara Jines, his niece, Jessica Russell and her family, husband, Justin, and children, Taylor and Loclynne, and niece Katie Cummins as well as a host of friends. The family suggests memorials to the TCU Ranch Management Alumni Scholarship, 2800 Stadium Drive, TCU Box 297420, Fort Worth, TX 76129; Medical Center League House, 7000 W Amarillo Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79106; or Wolf Creek Heritage Museum, 13310 Hwy 305, Lipscomb, TX 79056.
