Graveside services for Mrs. Velma Lee Hornberger, 82, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2013 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Dean English, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Velma passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 in Canadian, TX. Velma was born April 15, 1931 in Gassville, AR to the late Mr. Johnnie Golleher and Mrs. Addie (Wainwright) Golleher. She attended schools in Canadian. She married Ralph Hornberger on March 17, 1962 in Canadian, TX. Velma worked as a waitress for a number of years. She even got the nickname “Speedy” working at the restaurant Killarney Cafe. She was past president of VFW in Kermit, TX. They moved back to Canadian in 1987 from Kermit, TX. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her son, Duane Mecham, her granddaughter, Alicia Hornberger and her son-in-law, David Bennett. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Hornberger of Canadian, TX; three daughters, Susie Baxter and husband Shaffer and Linda Bennett all of Canadian, TX; Vicki Cain and husband David of Morgan’s Point, TX; two sons, Richard Lee Hornberger and wife Peggy of Carmen, TX; Jerry Mack Hornberger and wife Linda of Salado, TX; three brothers, Kenneth Joe Golleher of Hearn, TX; James Everett Golleher of Pampa, TX; Johnny Leon Golleher of Sherman, TX; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
