Services for Mrs. Maud Louise Wells, 97, of Lakeview, TX will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Boles, officiating. A private burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mrs. Wells passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in Memphis, TX. Maud was born August 30, 1910 in Lubbock, TX to the late Mr. David Worshem and Mrs. Della (Neely) Worshem. Maud moved to Memphis with her parents and two brothers, Preston and Mack in 1924. After graduating from Memphis High School in 1928, she worked in the First National Bank for 5 years. She was studying at Northwest Texas School of Nursing in Amarillo, TX when she married Del E. Wells of Lakeview, TX on April 8, 1935 in Enid, OK. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1982. After moving to Lakeview she worked with her husband in their meat market and grocery store until they sold it in 1949. While Del turned full time to farming, Maud worked at the Lakeview Post Office for 20 years. She served on 2 Hall County Grand Juries, as well as on the local election board. Fishing was a favorite pastime for both Maud and Del and they spent many happy days at Creede, CO and Lake Kemp along with many of their Lakeview friends. They also enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Europe. Maud made her last trip to Europe at the age of 80. Ireland was her favorite destination. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lakeview for over 65 years and served as secretary of her Sunday school class for many of those years. She is survived by one son, Clayton and a step-son, Keith both of Abilene, TX; one niece, Marilyn of Houston, TX. The family would like to make a special thank you to Dr. Caldwell and to the management and staff of the Memphis Convalescent Home for their care and kindness.
