Alvin Ward

Graveside services for Mr. Alvin Ward, 96, of Memphis, TX will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley, TX with Rev. Darrell Burton, officiating. Burial will follow in Rowe Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mr. Ward passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008 in Memphis, TX. Alvin was born on June 29, 1911 in Tuscahoma, OK to the late Mr. Nuet Ward and Mrs. Janie Bohannon Ward. He attended schools in Oklahoma. He married Mary Pounds Ward on August 15, 1931 in Colgate, OK. He worked as a farmer and mechanic for many years. Over the years, they lived in Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas. They returned to Memphis, TX 25 years ago. He is survived by two sons, Gerald Ward of Memphis, TX; Derral Ward of Ashdown, AR; one daughter, Vere Mauldin of Memphis, TX; one sister, Lottie Horton of Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Samuel Pounds of Rattan, OK; two sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Ward of Memphis, TX; Eunice Ward of Hedley, TX; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
