Graveside services for Bobby “Pig” Cockrell, 86, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Donald Hill, officiating. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Pig passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 in Canadian, TX. Pig was born February 13, 1927 in Foster, OK to the late Mr. George Cockrell and Mrs. Lula Bell (Land) Cockrell. He attended school at Blue Ridge. He moved to Hemphill County in 1932 from Foster, OK. Pig was in the United States Merchant Marines during the Japanese invasion. He married Audrey Miller on March 31, 1951 in Clovis, NM. Pig worked for the Canadian Highway Department for 20 plus years. He then went to work for the Canadian Independent School District for 10 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. Pig is also known as the Dinosaur man. In 1993, Pig built the dinosaur that is placed at the top of the caprock and he named it Aud. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Cockrell of Canadian, TX; two sons, Bobby Cockrell and wife Dottie of Bartlesville, OK; Darrell Cockrell of Canadian, TX; one daughter, Dianne Zenor and husband Bill of Canadian, TX; five grandchildren, Melissa Coin and husband Jeremy of Denton, TX; Aaron Callen of Fort Worth, TX; Melanie Reyes of Tyler, TX; Steve Cockrell of Canadian, TX; Anthony Cockrell of Cheyenne, OK; 5 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and his a close friends Charlie McMordie of Amarillo, TX and Jody Sharp of Canadian, TX. The family suggests memorials to a Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
