Memorial services for Jim Nix, 75, of Valentine, NE will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Canadian Rodeo Arena with Shawn Bonner, officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Jim passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in Stuart, NE. Jim was born December 31, 1937 in Canadian, TX to Jack and Eva Pearl Marshall Nix. Welcoming him home were his sisters Harriet and Bertie and brothers Percy, John (Buck) Richard, Jack Clyde (Pooch) and Robert. Jim attended and graduated Canadian High School. Upon graduating Jim worked at various jobs including being a butcher for the Best Way Grocery in Canadian, TX and Vici, OK. Jim loved cattle ranching and farming. This could be seen as he worked on several farms and ranches across Texas, Oklahoma, Idaho and Nebraska. During high school Jim became involved in rodeo where he competed in the amateur rodeo circuits throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and New Mexico. Jim retired from rodeo in 1975 to ranch and help his son David Wayne in following his dreams in the rodeo circuits. Later he came out of retirement and joined the National Old Timers Rodeo Association where he was a charter member and served on the board. It is rumored that he did not miss one rodeo in the five years that he was a member. Jim was among one of the first people to be awarded a Gold Card in the Senior Pro Rodeo Association and retired from Rodeo in 1981. Even though Jim was married several times, he was very proud of his children that came from these unions, David, Shannon, and Shawn and later he adopted two more boys Steamer and Tennessee. Jim might have not shown his love or affection often, but in the end he was so proud of how they grew up. Jim could get caught up in bragging in his boys and his granddaughter Brittany. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Eva Nix his son, David Wayne, his brothers, Percy, John, Robert and Richard and one sister Bertie Hoots. He is survived by one daughter, Shannon Day and husband Jeff and granddaughter Brittany of Woodward, OK; his sons, Shawn Nix and wife Rene' and grandson Chancey of Vici, OK; Steamer Nix and wife Janelle and granddaughter Brandi of Hawaii; Tennessee Nix and wife Krista and granddaughter Macarti of Hay Springs, NE; one brother, Jack Clyde of Canadian TX; one sister Harriet Rogers of Canyon Lake, TX; one sister-in-law, Frances Nix of Glazier TX and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
