Memorial services for Jerry Lynn Schafer, 74, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Donald Hill, officiating and Rev. Danny Sanders, assisting. Cremation is under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Jerry passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 in Canadian, TX. Jerry was born August 31, 1938 in Canadian, TX to the late Mr. Willie Schafer and Mrs. Lola (Guffey) Schafer. He attended schools in Canadian, TX. He married LaVerta (Meier) on June 2, 1990 in Canadian. Jerry was a rancher and a lifelong resident of Canadian. He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Lynn Schafer on September 25, 2010. He is survived by his wife, LaVerta Schafer of Canadian, TX; one son, Jay Schafer and wife Janice of Canadian, TX; two step-children, Becky Black of Canadian, TX; Guy Bennett of Beaver, OK; three brothers, Jimmy Schafer, Leonard Schafer and Billy Schafer all of Canadian, TX; two grandchildren, Jayme Schafer of Canadian, TX; Jessie Joe Schafer of Stillwater, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to the Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
