John Welch Hancock

Graveside services for Mr. John Welch Hancock 86, of Memphis, TX, will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Fairview Cemetery Chapel in Memphis, TX with Dr. O.K. Bowen, Officiating and Rev. Daniel Downey, Assisting. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Mr. Hancock passed away Monday, February 25, 2008 in Memphis, TX. He was born on April 23, 1921 in Lakeview, TX to the late Mr. Isaac Perry Hancock and Mrs. Doshia Beatrice Welch Hancock. He married Margarett Bourland on August 13, 1943 in Memphis, TX. John was a heavy equipment operator working with Hall County from 1947 until retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church. He was a life long resident of Hall County and a lifetime member of the Memphis Fire Department. He also had a great interest in music including playing the fiddle and singing. He is preceded in death by five brothers, Harvey, J.J., Cecil, Bobby and Paul and one grandson, Cody McDougle. He is survived by his wife, Margarett Hancock of Memphis, TX; three daughters, Barbara Driver and husband Lester of Levelland, TX; Ginger Boyd and husband Jim of Pampa, TX; Johnnie Sue Hancock of Amarillo, TX; one brother, Luther Hancock of Batson, TX; one sister, Nadine Myers of Clarendon, TX; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Hancock of Clarendon, TX; Ima Ruth Hancock of Memphis, TX; five grandchildren, Teri Douglas and husband Dave of Elgin, TX; Tammy Green and husband Brent of Littlefield, TX; Stephanie Spillers and husband Bob of Clarendon, TX; Jami Ward of Baltimore, MD; Jeni Ward of Amarillo, TX and eight great-grandchildren.
