Donald J. Carter

Graveside services for Donald J. Carter, 77, of Amarillo, TX will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Donald Hill, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Carter passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008 in Amarillo, Texas. Donald was born on April 11, 1930 in Hudson Falls, NY to the late Mr. Francis Donald Carter and Mrs. Cora Moise Carter. He attended grammar school in Hudson Falls, NY and was a 1947 graduate of Amarillo High School. He married Adelia “D” Carter on June 9, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, TX. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1984. He then married Evelyn “Jeri” Carter on August 25, 1989 in Amarillo, TX. Donald worked in the oil field until retiring in 1988. He was preceded in death by one son, Kip Dewayne Carter, two brothers, William “Buck” Carter and Robert Edward Carter, one step-son, Donnie Ray Spruill. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn “Jeri” Carter of Amarillo, TX; four sons, John Clifford Carter and wife Linda of Atoka, OK; Steven Dean Carter and wife Cathy of Deer Trail, CO; Duncan Todd Carter and wife Donna of Canadian, TX; Biff Lane Carter and wife Darla of Lindsey, OK; one daughter, Terrie D. Spangler and husband Mike of Amarillo, TX; two step sons, Jimmie Dan Spruill and wife Lonella of Plainview, TX; David Dean Spruill and wife Phyllis of Cleburne, TX; one brother, James Thomas Carter of Austin, TX; two sisters, Susan McAfee and husband Bill and Dale Ott all of San Antonio, TX; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 11 step great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great-grandson. The family suggest memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 3915 Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109.
