Rosary services for Samuel Thomas Jr., 69, of Canadian, TX will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Bala Showreddy, Officiating. Inurnment will be in Christ The King Cemetery in Browerville, MN at a later time. Cremation is under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Thomas passed away surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer Tuesday, October 2, 2012 in Canadian, TX. Samuel was born February 5, 1943 in Chickasha, OK to the late Mr. Samuel Thomas Sr. and Mrs. Lena (Webba) Thomas. He attended schools in Gary, OK. He married Theresa Young on December 20, 1982 in Dumas, TX. They moved to Canadian in 1991 from Claude, TX. Samuel worked as an industrial painter until his retirement. He later went to work for Lowe's Grocery, where he was a loyal and dedicated employee. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, sitting by his pond, and especially taking care of his dogs; Sissy, Dinky and Molly. He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Christy Lee Edwards, nephew, Troy Blake and brother-in-law, Lee Blake. Samuel is survived by his wife, Theresa Thomas of Canadian, TX; two sons, Michael Thomas of Sarasota, FL, Jody Edwards of Amarillo, TX; three daughters, Missie Billings of Canadian, TX; Heidi Iten of Browerville, MN, Dawn Elliott Springfield, MO; one sister, Linda Blake of Gary, OK; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
