Marilee Tepe Slavin

Services for Marilee Tepe “Bunny”Slavin, 87, of Higgins, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Higgins, TX with Richard Royal, officiating. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Marilee passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 in Arnett, OK following a short bout with lung cancer. Marilee was born June 22, 1925 to Ethel Jones Tepe and Clifford Mills Tepe at the home of her grandparents on 8th Street in Canadian, TX. She attended school in Canadian and graduated with the class of 1943. Upon graduation, she attended Texas Tech University one year and moved home during the war to teach school at Blue Ridge School, a little one room school south of Canadian. On May 7, 1944 she was united in marriage in Pampa, TX to Ted Slavin of Perryton, TX and she passed away on what would have been his 93 birthday. Ted and Marilee first moved south of Perryton for a short period before moving north of Higgins, later moving to town where she still resided. Marilee worked at the bank in Higgins for several years and at the Higgins Wheat Growers before retiring and opening a ceramic shop. She taught ceramics for many years until she had to stop to care for Ted during his last years of his life. All of this time, she kept all the books for Ted’s trucking business. She was a great cook and loved to cook for all her family and friends. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilee was preceded in death at the age of 16 by her father, Clifford; her mother, Ethel in 1982 and husband Ted in 2004; her brother, Bennie in 2004 and her mother-in-law, Pauline Slavin in 1992. She is survived by her daughter, Dona Folks and husband Jim of Arnett, OK; her sons, Jim Slavin and wife Mary of Miami, TX; Bob Slavin and wife Mavonteine of Higgins, TX; her grandchildren, Wade Folks and wife Melissa of Leedey, OK; Stacy Roberts and husband Harold of Oklahoma City, OK; Jamie Landers of Arnett, OK; Rowdy Slavin and wife Kelley of Goodwill, OK; Rusty Slavin and wife Kristol of Canadian, TX; Roper Slavin and wife Ashley of Woodward, OK; Rae Lynn Slavin of Miami, TX; her great-grandchildren, Cole and Cody Folks, Caitlin and Molly Landers, Cooper and Kiley Slavin, Camree and Chaynee Slavin and Jessica Slavin. The family suggests memorials to a Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
