Services for Mr. John Elbert Richards, 87, of Sherman, TX will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Memphis, TX with Rev. James King, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. John went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 27, 2012. He was born October 5, 1924 in Wilberton, OK to the late Mr. Elbert Richards and Mrs. Connie (Craft) Richards. He attended schools in Quail, TX. He married Minnie Bradley on April 24, 1943 in Memphis, TX. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2000. He was a World War II Veteran and worked as a mechanic for 45 years. He married Iva Phipps Evans on November 23, 2001. John was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a long time resident of Amarillo, TX and Gordonville, TX. He was preceded in death by his son, John L. Richards, his granddaughter, Lucretia Perritt Mann, his brothers, Jack, Ted, Othal, Olan and Bill Richards and his sisters, Dora Jacobs and Oletha Fry. He is survived by his wife; Iva Richards of Denison, TX; three sons, Lonnie Richards and wife Sally of Humble, TX; Lawrence Richards and fiancée Cheryl Harland of Houston, TX; Gary Richards and wife Reginna of Gordonville, TX; one daughter, Linda Perritt and husband John of Katy, TX; his daughter-in-law, Sandra Harwell and husband William of Gordonville, TX; two brothers, Robert Richards of McLane, TX; Curt Richards of Amarillo, TX; one sister, Mary Maxfield of Amarillo, TX; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of friends and loved ones.
