Graveside services for Carrol Bentley, 73, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Father Juan C. Barragan, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Bentley passed away Thursday, October 11, 2007 in Canadian, Texas. Carrol was born on September 8, 1934 in Canadian, TX to the late Mr. Aubrey Bentley and Mrs. Esther Baker Bentley. He attended schools in Canadian, TX. He was a lifelong resident of Canadian, TX. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Rose Marie Miller Bentley on April 22, 1956 in Canadian, TX. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2007. In 1958, Carrol had to leave his family when he was transferred to the South Pacific atolls of Eniwetak and Bikini where he helped with and witnessed a series of atomic bomb test. When the tests were completed, he was transferred to Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands where his family was soon reunited with him. From Kwajalein, they were sent to Abilene, TX, where Carrol completed his eight years of military service. In 1967, they spent a year living in Long Beach and Santa Barbara, CA, where he gained experience in deep-sea drilling. During his years in the Canadian area he worked in the oilfield. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Cora Louvern Bentley, Aubra Odell Bentley and Neva Lois Bentley. He is survived by two sons, Stephen Bentley and Stan Bentley and wife Alice all of Canadian, TX; one daughter, Stephanie Seale and husband Joel of Vernon, TX; four grandchildren, Heather Castro of Wichita Falls, TX; Nathan Seale of Vernon, TX; Megan Bentley and Katelyn Bentley both of Canadian, TX; one great-grandson, Matthew Castro of Wichita Falls, TX. The family suggest memorials be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S. 4th, Canadian, TX 79014.
