Services for Walter F. (Frank) Guthrie, 96, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew McCurley, officiating and Ben Mathers, assisting. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Frank passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in Amarillo, TX. Frank was born April 5, 1916 in Amarillo, TX to the late Mr. Hiram Mayes Guthrie and Mrs. Leafy Grace Wagner Guthrie. He was a 1935 graduate of Canadian High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving in World War II. During World War II Frank served in England where he met and married Violet Bernice Hewlett on December 8, 1945. Frank worked as a foreman for High Plains Natural Gas Company from 1946 to 1975. He then went to work for the City of Canadian in various positions. He was a member of the VFW, Canadian Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church where he also taught a Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Goodner on September 2, 2010, his great-grandson, Duncan Johnson, three brothers, Lucian, Alfred and H.C. Guthrie, two sisters, Stella Evans and Ruth Ivy. Frank is survived by his wife, Violet Guthrie of Canadian, TX; his son, Richard Guthrie of Abilene, TX; his daughter, Thoral Johnson and husband Bobby of Borger, TX; two sisters, June Goza of Ryan, OK; Judith Warren of Austin, TX; four grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
