Services for Kathryn Kent, 95, of Canadian, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Dinzel Leonard, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Kathryn passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Canadian, TX. Kathryn was born August 19, 1916 in Foster, OK to the late Mr. George Cockrell and Mrs. Lula Mae (Land) Cockrell. She attended schools in Oklahoma. She moved to Hemphill County in the 1930’s from Oklahoma. She married Tom Kent in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1994. Kathryn worked for five years at the Hemphill County Hospital. She then went to work for the Edward Abraham Memorial Home for the next 30 years and for 6 of those years she was the Activity Director until retiring in 1994. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carroll Gene Babitzke and 13 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her brother, Bobby “Pig” Cockrell and wife Audrey of Canadian, TX; four grandchildren, Jimmy Jones of Canadian, TX; Tamara Jones of Fort Supply, OK; Angelia Marques of Dumas, TX; Tonya Smith of Clinton, OK and 8 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th St., Canadian, TX 79014.
